TAKUMI MASTER

Combining dedication, finesse and expertise, Takumi master craftsmen are truly guardians of this artisan philosophy. Investing 10,000 hours in total to become an expert, a further 60,000 hours are invested to become a Takumi master.

Within training, Takumi masters develop what can only be described as superhuman senses. Spotting marks invisible to the untrained eye, tuning an engine by ear with surgical precision, detecting imperfections just a fraction of a millimetre - skill knows no bounds.

TIME-PROVEN EXPERTISE

Each Takumi master has at least 25 years of experience in their field. Testament to years of dedicated learning, their depth and breadth of knowledge is as remarkable as their refined intuition. Among the 7,700 workers at the Miyata Lexus Plant in Kyushi, there are just 19 Takumi - the highest honour within our engineering ranks.

Blending skill with spirit, our Lexus Takumi are highly trained with meticulous attention to detail. With a genuine belief in excellence, each master focuses on a different, particular element of the car-making process, which becomes their passion and obsession.

Takumi’s heightened sense of touch is legendary, whilst their renowned skills precede the digital age. Applying the delicacy of touch to create personalised luxury and superior quality, their hands are their most prized tool. Adorned with white gloves, they use their acute sensitivity to feel for tiny imperfections and faults.

SPEED AND PRECISION

To become a Takumi, candidates are rigorously assessed. Centering around attention, pace and the power of human touch, one test in particular is decidedly Japanese. The ask? Aspiring Takumi are challenged to fold a seemingly simple origami cat with their non-dominant hand and in under 90 seconds.
